Some older photos from this winter. These definitely have a melancholic twinge to them (not just the obvious first photo of Owen with a sad face). I enjoy compiling photos from the same time period that don't have much relation to each other in terms of composition or subject. That's what really lets *nostalgia* feelings/aesthetics form, it seems. I guess the only relation these have is the snow. Even after summer finally started showing its sunny face, I sometimes still feel the cold wistfulness settled in my bones... I guess winter never really ends.

I would write something incredibly insightful yet maddeningly depressing on my bedroom wall or on my bathroom mirror with my YSL red lipstick. Maybe I’ll include that actually I stole it from Sephora, maybe I’ll make it look like I did paid $34 for it. Whichever is more dramatic. It’ll be that turning point in this mysterious movie about a lost young adult who gives her final words before either killing herself or running away. If she runs away, it’ll either be to follow some absurd dream or to destroy her comfortable life. Whichever comes off more tragic. It’ll be that reference point where so many creatives and cult fanatics always look back too. That point where she lost her mind yet found herself in the process. It’ll hit a chord with the thousands of people who sat there watching it. “She knows how I feel," is the overwhelmingly trite thing they’ll say about it. The piece won't do too well in the first few years but will resurface in the next 10 years and become some sort of classic that teenagers watch alone in their room on the internet at 3 in the morning even though they have to get up early the next day. They’ll replay that stupid lipstick part again and again, because it hits them so hard; it'll sting yet console; and they’re favorite song is playing in the background as she makes her climactic exit. That one scene will mean so much that it hurts; it’s fucking painful to see something that sits so deeply with your troubled, underdeveloped mind.
"Blue Line" by Brian Lotti is such an amazing video. It's a "short concept film exploring various ways of tracking and shooting skateboarders moving through the landscape." I couldn't get enough of it, what talent. I had to take some screen shots. Each screen shot is like a beautiful photograph; it's like each one tells its own story.
Here's some photographs taken by Kyler Zeleny that I found while floating around the interwebs recently. Everything I've been happening upon has been so inspiring to my own interests. I've had a non-stop stream of creative thoughts thrown my way, but I do nothing with any of these inspirations. Too much homework is taking up my time; and the rest I leave to hanging out with friends. I should prioritize if I want to leave any sort of creative mark sometime in my life, shouldn't I...
Take me to middle of the forest
To the top of a mountain;
I want to dangle my feet from the ledge
of a rocky cliff.
Bring me to where the millions of visible stars
look down on me every night
Where the trees welcome you
with their open arms
and clean air.
I could feel the wind bite my face
the rain soak into my skin
or the crisp intensity
of swimming unclothed.
I want to sleep on the cold ground
without the comfort of my bed
without the warmth of my home
without the safety of staying in one place.
I want to feel the earth
for the first time.
Today I went downtown New Haven with my roommate on a search for the wonderful yet out of reach french macarons. We left without finding any but ended up with a nice full belly of red velvet cupcakes, peanut butter truffles, and chocolate + cheesecake squares. Good enough.
Afterwards, I went to a poetry/fiction reading for my school's literary magazine. I went by myself, and even though I would have enjoyed it more with a familiar face, I still had a wonderful time. I won the book Jesus' Son through a raffle there too, which was a happy surprise. I never win those kind of things.
Since I don't have any photo evidence of my delightful friday, here's some photos of what my eye has been gravitating towards as of recent.
